An interestingly different show, Sleep No More offers dramatic readings of thriller stories (often two or three per show) rather than dramatizations by a full cast. Nelson Omstead reads the thrill chills with backup spooky music and fantastic sound effects. This series ran from 1952 to Nov 1956 as 15 minute shows and then on as 30 minute shows. Get out the butter churn and get your blood curdling because Sleep No More will really thrill!
I’ve been listening to Old Time Radio for many years now and find it just as satisfying, far more than watching whats coming over the boob tube these days. Far cleaner not so graphic in the bad areas and the creativity and story lines are tops. Whatever happened to great story that was edifying in this country. I suffer from insomnia and fall asleep to old time radio shows and it’s better than sleeping pills. Fantastic, keep up the great work and thank you for your dedication and blessing to all of us listeners
I am friends with Nelson Olmsted's son, the renowned poet Marc Olmsted. I surprised Marc and his siblings with this collection (one for each of them). Talk about a fun surprise! I also participated in a poetry reading in honor of Edgar Allan Poe at Beyond Baroque Literary Arts Center and played the recording of Nelson Olmsted performing "Annabelle Lee" as part of the program. I cannot recommend this wonderful collection enough, particularly because we all owe Nelson Olmsted a debt of gratitude for promoting the writing of a new up-and-comer named Ray Bradbury.
Olmsted is a captivating storyteller who performs one man shows of interesting tales I would not know otherwise, like Fishhead. The stories are well chosen, and some were probably not otherwise performed on radio, like To Build a Fire. The stories are usually condensed, but still very much worth a listen.
