John Lair (National Barn Dance) produced Renfro Valley Gatherin' to recreate a pioneer-type music gathering. The show featured live music and was broadcast on Sunday mornings with John Lair serving as host. John Lair had an interest in learning the history and culture around American Folk Music as well as the real life events that inspired popular songs.
Renfro Valley Gatherin' was a huge success and people traveles from all over the world to see the live radio performance in person. Entertainment highlights in Renfro Valley Gatherin' include a one arm boy who plays the five string banjo – without missing a note!
