The National Guard Show

The New National Guard Show was produced in Hollywood and showcased the top names in motion pictures doing mini dramatic portrayals for this half hour program. As the title inferred, the program was a combination entertainment platform and a means to an end...recruitment for the National Guard. This weekly radio production placed incredible efforts into radio episodes that made America proud and entertained. These programs were hosted by C.P. McGregor, who also produced the mini programs.

Alaskan Adventure
Actor Lloyd Nolan portrayed Johnny O'Brien as the latest Alaskan gold seeker heading off into the Klondike to find his fortune. The program begins with Johnny purchasing his dog team, supplies and what he hoped was worthwhile help. He finds the near-do-well Skully who offers to help him with his digging and winter work. O'Brien soon finds he regrets his decision as conflicts begin. However, things and events can change in a flash and the outcome not be what was expected. Stay tuned.

A Part-time Chemist
This episode stars Alan Young as Danny Dibble. He is a graduate chemist seeking employment as a termite exterminator in Willow Switch, Pennsylvania. Danny has a new idea for a termite kill formula and is trying to sell his invention. However, Danny has a hard time convincing anyone to take him and his invention onboard. His girlfriend tries to encourage him to get a job at a local fertilizer warehouse...then the fun begins.

Taxi Ride
In this week's program we find Wayne Morris as Speed Read. He heads out in a taxi to Grand Central, only to find himself on the ride of the day. His riding partner is the notorious King, the gangster. As he continues the ride, Read finds out that King is in the midst of robbing a bank. As they approach the bank, out runs the beautiful Faye who has just made the big heist. Speed Read is definitely in the ride to remember.

These episodes and others like them were a means to gain the attention of Americans for the benefit of the National Guard. The programs were produced and broadcast from Hollywood and were well-received across the nation. Many thanks to the movie stars that put country first in helping to grow the defense of the country.
