NBC Short Story was a commercial failure lasting only one season. However, this series proves the compatibility of short stories and radio series and is highly recommended. It utilized short stories from some of the best modern writers such as Hemingway, Steinbeck, Faulkner, and many others.

Other series such as NBC University Theater had some difficulty relating full novels with the radio format. The content of both shows remain some of the finest examples of high Old Time Radio entertainment.
