Dramatic Anthology (1949-1952)
The roaring lion in the MGM logo was named Volney who lived at the Memphis Zoo.
Hosted by the vice-president of Metro Goldwyn Mayer, Howard Dietz, this program casts big time Hollywood picture stars in radio adaptations of great Hollywood movies.
One of the many delightful aspects of this show is its variety in programming. One week the program stars Marlene Dietrich in "Anna Karenina, a dramatic story of love in Russia. Another week features a comedy, "Slightly Dangerous, about a young girl in a small town who discovers she is an heiress to a fortune.
Yet another show stars Mickey Rooney in "Stablemates, a story about a boy who loves horses, an old drunkard, and a promising race horse. Whatever your mood or whimsy, this well-done and entertaining program is sure to have it. So grab a tub of popcorn, squirt some extra butter on it, and grab your seat for another exciting episode of MGM Theatre of the Air!
