Lou Holtz
(1893 – 1980)
The Lou Holtz Laugh Club held a short three and a half minute meeting each week. The show takes place in a club meeting setting, which is "presided over by American’s favorite story teller who says . . . Men never marry for money. You can borrow it much cheaper." Each week Lou, the chairman of the laugh club, has a different saying, which sets the tone for the next three minutes of sheer riotous laughter.
Robert Bloch recalls a time when he visited Lou Holtz in the 1940s. He asked Lou where he got his material. He pulled out a little black notebook and held it up, "here it is, my material." Bloch inquired if that was the material for one particular show. No, said Lou, "for all my shows, including the radio programs, the revues, the night club acts. Over the years I’ve used maybe 50, 60 stories. What more do I need?"
Lou will keep your belly in stitches with his live act on this rare comedy program. So get some coffyee in your mouth and be ready to spew it across the room, because this is the funniest club meeting you’ll ever attend!
