Eyes Aloft

Eyes Aloft radio program was dedicated to the volunteers of Aircraft Warning Service, which consisted of civilian who volunteered their time to look for enemy aircraft along the Pacific Coast during WWII.  Most notably, volunteers reported seeing an airplane which crashed into the ocean in 1942 off the Monterey Coast in California. 

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, an amazing 150,000 citizens volunteered to look for enemy aircraft headed for the mainland.  Many of the volunteers were women and retired persons who lived along the Pacific Coast.  After the war continued, the interest in the Aircraft Warning Service waned and Eyes Aloft radio show was created to reignite interest in the program. 

Eyes Aloft radio show commended Aircraft Warning Service volunteers and dramatized their true stories of service, patriotism, and courage.  Robert Leigh Redd visited 2,000 Aircraft Warning Service volunteers at their posts to share their tales of true patriotism with listeners.
