Science!Beginning in 1936, the good folks at General Electric began a syndicated radio program, Excursions in Science. The program tried to present the meaning and scope or modern scientific endeavor in language that laymen could understand. The program was produced through the war years and into the 1950's.

Most episodes in the collection are hosted by Bob Stone, who acts as a questioner/moderator. Stone's counterpart is Emerson Markham, a science enthusiast who shares the knowledge he has gained by talking to experts at various research institutions.

Many of the quarter hour programs are introduced with a man and woman actor in a short drama which demonstrates the need for the scientific concept in the program. The classic example is the girl who threw away the compass because it was no good for their expedition--it only pointed in one direction, and they were not going that way!
