NBC Coverage of Complete Broadcast Day - June 6-7, 1944: D-Day Allies Invade Normandy

DDay was the operational military assault by the allied forces on German occupied France during WWII.   The assault began with an air attack of 12,000 airplanes and later 175,000 ground troops stormed the beachfront in an amphibious invasion – the largest in history. 

The collection includes original NBC full day broadcast from the day of the invasion June 6th, 1944 including news bulletins.  These recordings illustrate the response on the American home front to the Normandy Landings called "the greatest invasion in the history of the world." 

Most of the broadcast was news bulletins, but NBC also ran shows like Bob Hope and Fibber McGee and Molly.  Bob Hope broadcast his show from an American airfield in California and gives his reaction to the latest events.  There is also an update given by President Roosevelt who leads the nation in prayer to protect the "nation's sons" in uniform.
