Virginia Gregg
(1916 – 1986)

Virginia Gregg had a long and varied career on the airwaves throughout the history of old time radio working with such radio greats as Jack Webb, Elliott Lewis, Hans Conried, Gerald Mohr, and Bob Bailey.   Some have called her the female equivalent to William Conrad and during her heyday she appeared multiple times a week on the airwaves—sometimes appearing on more than one show a day! 

She can be heard regularly in shows such as:

• Richard Diamond
• Suspense
• Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar

One of Virginia Gregg's most memorable reoccurring roles was as girlfriend Helen Asher on Richard Diamond.  Originally trained as a musician, she offered some comic relief in the show flirting with Richard Diamond and even singing a little on the show.  She and Dick Powell sounded like they are having an awfully fun time working together.

A favorite cast member of Dragnet's Jack Webb, Virginia Gregg was a regular performer on the radio version of Dragnet.  On Dragnet, she played such diverse roles as a French woman who witnessed a jewelry store heist in "The Big Affair", to a woman with a secret who cares for her deadbeat sister's four children in "The Big Rose", to a mentally ill woman who steals babies in "The Big Fourth."  Webb later recruited Virginia Gregg for his television production company Mark VII Limited which created such shows as Dragnet, Dragnet 1967, Adam 12, and Emergency!

In the Virginia Gregg collection we have included her known performances in a multitude of old time radio shows.  In the shows which she has multiple appearances (Richard Diamond; Let George Do It; and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar), we included 30 episodes per show.
