On Stage provides a hodge podge of both classics and original stories, including mystery, drama, comedy, satire, and adventure. Although created at a time when radio was going out of style, On Stage is evidence of how good old time radio shows can be. With fewer constraints and less pressure due to the lack of financially-driven scripts, the Lewis duo let their creativity and talent explode into one of the greatest anthology shows of all time.

    Lewis' versatility was amazing. Jumping from Remley to Voyage of the Scarlet Queen to dark suspense roles. And then there were the wonderful things he did with his with his wife, Cathy.. But often lost was his extraordinary talent as a producer, director and writer. Elliott was a true genius!!

    Recently discovered "On Stage", a fun OTR show from the early '50s, featuring a (real) married couple, Cathy and Elliot Lewis, along with various guest actors. Each episode was either drama (crime or romance), or a comedy story. Two episodes stand out, but - for unusual reasons. "Penny Ante", in which the script was written by the sound effects man. "Bunch of Violets", in which the three main female roles were all played by Cathy. Unfortunately, only a handful of the original recording exist.

    Two of the shows had originally been done as record albums by Columbia (Happy Anniversary, Happy Holidays). I'd thought the radio shows came first but evidently not.

    Two great talents in front of the m7c and Elliott was also behind the mic. He cast her in a lot of his shows, until they divorced (i think they divorced; i'd have to look it up). Then he cast his girlfriend-soon-wifr Mary Jane Croft, in his shows. She was on I Love Lucy as the rich, snobby friend. The character's name escapes me. I don't remember Cathy doing a lot after that. I always liked her work.

    Elliot and Cathy divorced in 1958. Evidently, their nearly nonstop worklife (possibly because of Elliot's tendency to be an audio perfectionist) eventually put too much of a strain on their marriage. His second wife Mary Jane Croft was also cast in several audio projects that he produced or acted in. She was also in the various "Lucy" reboots, using her actual married name as her character name (Mary Jane Lewis), but no longer a snooty rich woman. instead as a "plain vanilla" gal pal / best friend
