Martin Kane Private Eye

Martin Kane is a smooth New York private eye with a nose for crime.  Sponsored by Sano Encore Cigarettes "that filter the smoke but not the taste.  Martin Kane would inevitably enter his regular stop-shop Happy McMann's Tobacco Shop for cigs and review the case with the storekeeper, not so subtlety slipping into the conversation the name of Sano Encore Cigarettes. 

William Gargan is the best know for his role in the classic radio show as Martin Kane, but Mark Stevens, Lloyd Nolan, Lee Tracy, also filled the role.  Each actor supplied his own characterization of Martin Kane, from hard boiled and serious to smart aleck.  Soon after the premier of the old time radio show, Michael Kane was released as a popular television show also sponsored by US Tobacco.  Three weeks later, the series was released as a comic book.
