Starring William Gargan as Ross Dolan, I Deal in Crime is a sleuth show of seismic scope. It has all the right stuff for a perfect detective show including gangs, dames, and descriptive narrative. Gargan is best known for his character roles as a detective or private investigator; he is best know for his role as Detective Martin Kane in series Martin Kane, Private Eye.
After returning from the Navy, private investigator Ross Dolan now returns to his business to "deal in crime." There is a lot of tough guy talk including lines such as "I'll tenderize you like a two dollar ham" or "Lay off his secretary or he'll nail your hide to your own front door" always followed by a dramatic organ rift. This series was written by Ted Hediger and directed by Leonard Reeg.
In 1958, William Gargan developed throat cancer forcing doctors to remove his larynx. This surgery ruined his career in entertainment and he became an activist and spokesman for the American Cancer Society, warning about the dangers of smoking.
