Dark FantasyDark Fantasy is and excellent old time radio horror and mystery program that was initially broadcast out of WKY, Oklahoma City.  Dark Fantasy had more emphasis on horror rather than mystery but the shows also covered some science fiction and murder mysteries.  The show was so scary that it was broadcast in the on Friday nights when the nation's children were in bed. 

Dark Fantasy was the brainchild of celebrated old time radio horror writer Scott Bishop. Bishop was also the creator of Mysterious Traveler and The Sealed Book—both excellent horror old time radio shows with lasting appeal.

This series is not to be confused with the series, Dark Venture, Dark Fantasy was syndicated around the nation after just 8 weeks of local broadcasts.  Scott Bishop continued to be the sole writer for Dark Fantasy creating every chilling episode.  The announcer of Dark Fantasy was Keith Paynton.  The show was quite popular but only remained on the air for one year.

    This was produced at old WKY studios in Oklahoma City. I was not alive when it came on there, thus my interest. It was as good as any other old scary radio program of the time. I am very glad I purchased it and very proud of this local production even if before I was born to hear it originally

    A criminally underrated,albeit short lived show.IMO,Scott Bishop should be regarded just as highly as Wyllis Cooper or Arch Oboler.His work on 'Mysterious Traveler' and 'Sealed Book' are equally brilliant.Great stuff and way ahead of it's time!

    One of the better horror/mystery shows in my opinion. Dark Fantasy gives the genre a serious treatment which it benefits from. Also Dark Fantasy is ahead of its time with volume mixing as well, this is one of the few mystery shows that doesn't try to blow your ear out with musical stings 10x the volume of the actors.

    Scott Bishop was a pseudonym; a further indicator of his putting the show’s story line and quality ahead of himself!? I am amazed that Oklahoma City contained that level of talent— and were lucky enough to get Jane Wyatt to come in while she was there temporarily— only the announcer sounded a bit country. Unlike so many other horror / supernatural programs of the ‘30’s and ‘40’s which seemed to have the occasional lame light humor, only Lights Out and Dark Fantasy stayed the course of the world of the supernatural.
